The monument is located at the southern end of the Potala Palace Square, the highest city square in the world, with distant mountains and green trees as the background to the south and 350 meters away from the majestic Potala Palace in the north. The entire monument is only at the entrance door. The upper part and the base are decorated with decorative shapes rich in Tibetan local style, and the style is simple. Its shape is an abstract Mount Everest, hoping to show the monument's towering momentum and the eternity of being with the world.

The Tibet Peaceful Liberation Monument was designed by Qi Kang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the Institute of Architectural Design of Southeast University.

The total height of the monument is 37 meters. The main body is gray and white, which is tall and straight, simple and integrated.

The bottom pedestal is 3 meters high and adopts the form of grass slopes, combined with falling-out walls and steps, making the monument as if grown from the ground, solemn and sacred.

Part of the stele body is embedded with irregular golden and red mirrored glass ribbons, which echo the colors of the Potala Palace; five golden belts are placed on the upper end of the inscription on the south side of the stele, representing the 50th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet.

There are five steps at the entrance, representing the 50th anniversary of Tibet’s peaceful liberation. The circle symbolizes the great unity of all ethnic groups. The top of the entrance door and the walls on both sides are decorated with high reliefs, showing the history of Tibet’s peaceful liberation; Two groups of bronze sculptures are based on the liberation of Tibetan serfs and road building by the People's Liberation Army.
